Biography

The beginning of the creative path

Bayaskhalanov Zhigzhit Bairovich was born in the village of Alkhanai in 1985. and grew up in the village of Amitkhasha, Aginsky district. In 2003, Zhigzhit graduated from IHIM (production of artistic metal products) of the Professional Lyceum No. 24 in Ulan-Ude.

There he was lucky enough to become a student of Tsyzhibon Vladimir Sodnomovich, a graduate of the Moscow State Art and Industry Academy named after S. G. Strogonov. He has taught me a lot over the years.

Also, Zhigzhit spent a lot of time in the Court of Artists in the village of Istok, Ulan-Ude, with the leading jewelers of Buryatia and natives of the Aginsky district Bazarov Bayaskhalan Tsypylovich and Dambiev Bair Dambinimaevich,
has been an apprentice almost every summer since the age of 12. Since 2004 in St. Petersburg he worked in the workshop-studio of S.N. Mezhov, where fate gave me the opportunity to communicate with experienced craftsmen, professors and teachers of the Higher Art and Industrial School named after. Mukhina, thanks to which I gained vast experience, professional development in general artistic terms, having acquired a holistic and figurative perception of the created works, mastered new jewelry techniques and gained a wide range of ideas for weapons themes.

I have a penchant for jewelry from my father, for whom jewelry work is a favorite hobby, doing which he produced a lot of national jewelry in his life. In our family, all family members showed interest in their father's favorite pastime, and the children participated in small procedures for preparing certain components for crafts. From an early age, with great interest, I began to learn the intricacies of jewelry from my father and began to make Buryat national products on my own. As a schoolboy, I participated more than once in regional and district reviews of folk crafts, where I won prizes.

Each of my work begins, like a book, with an idea. And this stage is the longest and most responsible. A work of jewelry art is literally “born in creative throes”, as it is customary to say in a high style. I draw ideas for my works from the heritage of my ancestors: I am inspired by the Buryat epic, I borrow the motifs of the national Buryat costume and ornament, I use elements of traditional Buryat symbolism for decoration, which is based on ancient sacred knowledge, and, of course, the source of inspiration is the infinitely beautiful and diverse nature in its forms.

The works of folk art, the study of the life and customs of our ancestors, our beliefs and cults give me rich food for thought, reading historical books and annals - artifacts of the life of the ancient Mongol-Buryats - immerse me in a fantasy world and serve as an excellent soil for the sprouts of my own creativity.

Months pass from the moment the main concept and idea of a particular product (what will it be: a knife, a pipe, a piece of jewelry or a table installation?) appear before it is embodied in steel and silver and finalized. Work begins with sketches. I'm drawing.

Then, after choosing a variant of the artistic solution of the product, the selection of materials begins, which, on the one hand, will have symbolism and sacred energy - important elements of the Buryat culture, and, on the other hand, will allow you to fully reveal the beauty of the intended ornaments, demonstrate the effectiveness of jewelry processing techniques and give the desired functionality and ergonomics of the manufactured object.

My favorite jewelry technique is chasing. This is an ancient metalworking technique adopted by the Buryats. There are about a dozen different types of coinage. The effectiveness of chased jewelry can be compared with lace on clothes. It is always beautiful, imaginative, elegant.

You can evaluate the result of my creative work in the “Products” section, where photos and descriptions of my jewelry are presented.

Public recognition also gradually comes to me, as a master - a representative of the traditional Buryat jewelry art, in the form of awards based on the results of participation in exhibitions and competitions, which I cannot but be proud of.
